How to Install Your Hide and Seek / Gumnut Kids Cubby Wallpaper
How to Install Your Hide and Seek / Gumnut Kids Cubby Wallpaper
We provide custom cubby wallpapers designed to perfectly fit the feature wall of your Hide and Seek Kids or Gumnut Kids Cubby House, right up to the peak (if applicable). Each wallpaper includes a slight bleed on the width and height to accommodate minor size variations in cubby manufacturing. Simply trim the excess during installation—no measuring required! Just select your cubby from the dropdown list when purchasing.
What You'll Receive:
Your wallpaper will come in panels with a 1cm overlap on each panel. You can trim it to fit up to the peak or roofline during installation if desired.
What You'll Need:
To apply your wallpaper, you'll need to create a flat, smooth surface. Do not apply the wallpaper directly to the cubby wall, as it isn’t smooth. Both pre painted ply and corflute work well for this purpose, but our personal preference is corflute—it’s lightweight, easy to cut, and user-friendly. You can find corflute at your local hardware store (or use perforated plastic if you’re in the USA).
Attach the corflute to the cubby wall with strong double-sided tape before installing your wallpaper.
Note: there is no need to apply Viponds prep coat to the corflue, this is only applicable for painted walls.
Installation Steps:
-
Prepare the Corflute
-
Measure your cubby wall and cut the corflute to size.
-
Depending on the size of your corflute sheets and cubby wall, you may need to join two pieces. Use a thin tape to join the pieces, ensuring the surface remains smooth.
-
-
Attach the Corflute
-
Secure the corflute to your cubby wall with heavy-duty double-sided tape.
-
Wipe the corflute surface with a lint-free, dry cloth to remove any dust.
-
-
Install the Wallpaper
-
Peel, stick, smooth, and trim the wallpaper as you would on a full-sized wall. For a detailed guide, refer to our wallpaper installation instructions here:

Pro Tip:
Inside the cubby, wallpapering above and below the white beam creates a charming "picture rail" effect. It also simplifies installation by allowing you to apply the wallpaper in two sections:
-
For the top section, cut the corflute into a triangle shape based on your cubby’s measurements. Apply the wallpaper to the triangular corflute, then attach it to the cubby.
-
For a full-wall look, measure and cut the corflute to mimic the shape of a house, as per the cubby dimensions, then install the wallpaper from bottom to top.

Using Wall Decals in Your Cubby
Our wall decals can also add a fun touch to your cubby! Unlike wallpaper, decals don’t require a flat surface. Apply them directly to the painted wooden walls, pressing them into or smoothing them over the grooves—whichever style you prefer.
Outdoor Use
Our wallpaper and wall decals can be used in outdoor spaces, such as cubby houses. However, to maximize their lifespan, please consider the following:
- Protection from Elements: The more the wallpaper is shielded from direct exposure to the elements (sun, rain, wind), the longer it will last. Weathering over time is natural for anything exposed outdoors.
- Proper Preparation: Ensure your cubby house is correctly painted and weatherproofed to help protect the wallpaper. For tips, refer to: https://hideandseekkids.com.au/pages/painting-maintenance-information
- Clean Adhesive Backing: Make sure the adhesive side remains free of oil, dust, and debris during installation to ensure a strong, lasting bond.
Taking these steps will help keep your wallpaper and decals looking great for as long as possible!
